Mark
Aljets

“The nature of my practice allows me to be in the field as well as the courtroom.”

If Mark Aljets isn't in the office, you'll likely find him at a scene investigation site.

For decades, Mark has specialized in defending businesses involved in catastrophic events. In these situations, the need to quickly determine what happened is critical in order to limit a client's exposure and liability. That often means gathering the facts firsthand from the site. "I want to know exactly what's happening as quickly as possible," Mark says. "If the scene is still available, I'll be there. I prefer that to getting a file folder of someone else's research down the road."

Mark practices in the areas of product liability, complex personal injury and tort defense, and construction litigation. The vast majority of his cases deal with fires and explosions. Clients view Mark as a strong advocate, thorough, and hands-on during all stages of the case.

He believes the result of a case hinges on his credibility, connection, and communication with jurors and on convincing them he is the individual in the courtroom they can trust. "It’s about creating that connection with the jury. I conduct extensive research to know the facts and applicable law, and I like to think I possess a certain quality juries find trustworthy and credible."

Mark joined Nyemaster in the early 1990s. Mark especially values the team aspect of practicing at Nyemaster. "I could not be prouder of my affiliation with the Nyemaster law firm," he says. "This is an incredible group of lawyers and I take great pride in representing the firm and my clients."

With his singular focus on defense work, Mark is affiliated with the Iowa Defense Bar and Defense Research Institute on a state and national level.
