Under Iowa law, petitions to appeal the January 1, 2017 assessed values of real estate must be filed with the county or city board of review no later than Monday, May 1, 2017.  According to the Polk County Assessor’s April 2017 newsletter, the average increase for commercial and industrial property in Polk County was 8.5%, while multi-residential property in Polk County saw an average increase of 10.7%. Land valuations in Polk County also saw dramatic increases, averaging 40% in downtown Des Moines and 20% outside of the downtown area. Significant increases were also experienced outside of Polk County.

If you are interested in discussing whether to appeal the 2017 assessed value of your property or properties, please contact Bruce Baker at (515) 283-3187 or Dwayne Vande Krol at (515) 283-8195 as soon as possible.
