We believe that your summer experience at Nyemaster Goode should provide you with a realistic view of what it is like to practice law at our firm. Accordingly, our summer program is designed to give you a hands-on, real-world look at who we are and what we do. Assignments for summer associates relate to ongoing client matters, offer practical exposure to the firm's client base and practice, and are representative of work performed by attorneys at Nyemaster Goode.
We understand that most students have not selected a specific practice area and, as such, our summer associate program is designed to give you experience with each of the firm's practice areas. To facilitate this, we team summer associates with an attorney who serves as an assignment coordinator. The coordinator draws assignments from attorneys throughout the firm, enabling our summer associates to explore different areas of the firm's practice and ensuring that they are able to work with a variety of attorneys. Over the course of the summer you will have the opportunity to attend, for example, client interviews, depositions, trials, mediations, bankruptcy hearings, administrative hearings, alternative dispute resolution procedures, closings, and negotiations.
We also believe that the summer program should make you a better student and a better attorney. For that reason, the attorneys at Nyemaster Goode strive to provide feedback on all projects, and every attorney is available to provide tutelage and guidance.
Finally, we believe your summer experience should be fun. The summer at Nyemaster Goode is filled with opportunities to get to know our attorneys and the City of Des Moines, including: a summer golf outing at one of many fine golf courses in the Des Moines area; at least weekly lunches with firm attorneys; social receptions regularly on one of our 16th floor terraces; and a skybox baseball night at Principal Park, home of the Iowa Cubs (the AAA affiliate of the Chicago Cubs).
When selecting students for our summer program, we look for people who have the potential to become shareholders at Nyemaster Goode. We seek not only superb lawyers, but also exceptional people. We strive to hire those people who have performed well in school, who have an aptitude for analysis and innovation, who are personable, articulate and mature, and who have a strong desire to practice in Iowa. In the past few years our summer class has included students from Columbia, Duke, Drake, Harvard, Iowa, Michigan, Northwestern, Stanford, Vanderbilt, and Washington University in St. Louis.
