Paula Dierenfeld and Paige Thorson Moderate Panel at Global Insurance Symposium

On Thursday, April 27, 2017, Paula Dierenfeld and Paige Thorson of Nyemaster Goode, P.C. moderated a panel of four state insurance commissioners at the Global Insurance Symposium.  The panel included Commissioner Ted Nickel of Wisconsin, Commissioner Laura Cali Robison of Oregon, Commissioner Al Redmer, Jr. of Maryland, and Commissioner Doug Ommen of Iowa. 

The panelists shared their expertise on a range of emerging issues and topics including:

  1. International insurance standards, including the controversial negotiated covered agreement between the United States and the European Union.
  2. The role of the NAIC’s new Innovation and Technology Task Force in advancing the use of InsurTech in the context of marketing, rating, underwriting, and claims.
  3. The instability in the individual health market, including the rising cost of health care delivery as a contributing factor as well as possible solution.
  4. The uncertainty surrounding the United States Department of Labor’s Fiduciary Duty Rule and whether it will adversely impact the ability of Americans to gain access to retirement information and financial advice.
