Scott Sundstrom Moderates Panel at Global Insurance Symposium

On Thursday, April 28th, Scott Sundstrom of Nyemaster Goode, P.C. moderated a panel of four incumbent state insurance commissioners in the final session of the Global Insurance Symposium. The panel was comprised of John Doak, Commissioner of the Oklahoma Insurance Department, Anne Melissa Dowling, Director of the Illinois Department of Insurance, Peter Hartt, Director of the New Jersey Department of Banking and Insurance, and Ted Nickel, Commissioner of the Wisconsin Insurance Department.

The panelists discussed a wide range of emerging topics and issues, including (i) the potential risks associated with adopting uniform international capital standards, (ii) the ramifications of the federal court decision rescinding MetLife’s designation as a systemically important financial institution (SIFI) under Dodd-Frank, (iii) the impact of catastrophic weather events and the responses of state insurance departments, (iv) the benefits of utilizing supervisory colleges to enhance regulatory oversight at the holding company level, and (v) strategies to address innovative insurance products and services and ways to enhance coordination with insurance companies to achieve optimal regulatory regimes.
